Submitting your letter to the editor. In today's digital world most media outlets prefer to receive digital copies of letters via email. Digital information does not have to be retyped into their own system which saves time and resources. After you email your letter it is advisable to contact the editor to ensure that they have received your letter and that you give them permission to print it. You can also fax your letter or personally deliver it if that is feasible. Generally if your letter is in response to a previous letter which you are wanting to criticize/support there is a higher likelihood that it will make it in the following week's publication if it makes it to their office by their deadline. (usually no later than noon on the Wednesday) There are times when general letters to the editor will be printed one or more weeks after you have submitted yours if there are several letters awaiting publication. You can indicate to the editor that you feel your letter is more important if published ASAP if you have good reasons and indicate that. No guarantees though.

Did you know that if you send a letter to a Member of the Legislative Assembly and want all other MLA's to receive a copy all you need to do is indicate at the bottom of your letter "cc to all members of the legislative assembly" and this will ensure that the MLA who has received the letter will be providing a copy to all members on your behalf. However this option may only hold true while the Legislature is in session which is typically in the spring and fall.

Similar guidelines apply at the Federal level where letters sent to members of parliament can also be distributed to all MP's by indicating the following at the bottom of your letter; "cc to all Members of Parliament". If you are sending your letter through Canada Post it is not necessary to include postage on the envelope while Parliament is in session.

"How come, at a time  when the environmental movement is stronger and richer than ever, our most pressing ecological problems just get worse? It's as though the planet has hit a Humpty-Dumpty moment in  which unprecedented amounts of manpower and money are unable to  put the world back together again."
